“What kind of trouble will you get into today?” Mawmaw asked as she sat the bag of tomatoes on the counter next to the flowers.

“Why do you always assume that I’m getting into trouble?” Celeste tucked her hands in her pockets and leaned against the sill.

“Because usually you do,” Mawmaw said.

Celeste thought of the planned exchange of crockery at the Met, and shrugged.  She couldn’t really argue with the truth.  “I thought I would take Becky Sue to the Met,” She said.

“That’s a good idea,” Mawmaw said.  She pulled out yesterday’s paper and sat it on the kitchen divider between them.  Then she looked up at Celeste with a pointed expression.  Celeste noted that the paper was folded so that her account of their encounter with Red Death was on top.  She gave Mawmaw an apologetic look.

“A nice, safe museum would be just the place to take your sister.”

Celeste nodded.  She thought that bringing up the number of dangerous arcane artifacts that the museum handled would not be the best idea.

Mawmaw’s eyes narrowed.  “You’re not telling me everything.  You’ve got that shifty look that your father used to get when he was up to no good.”
